Universal Estimate Template for Every Trade (2026)
Whether you're a roofer, plumber, electrician, HVAC tech, or remodeler, every estimate needs the same nine sections. Here's the universal template — plus how to adapt it for any trade.
The 9 sections every estimate needs
- Header — your company logo, license #, customer name, property address, date.
- Scope summary — one paragraph of what the job is and isn't.
- Itemized work — line items with quantity and unit.
- Materials — brand, model, grade, supplier.
- Labor — crew, hours, rate per unit.
- Subcontractors — any trades you'll bring in.
- Exclusions — what is NOT in this price.
- Pricing — subtotal, tax, total, deposit, progress payments, final balance.
- Terms — validity period, change-order policy, warranty.
Adapt it for your trade
- Roofing — replace "work units" with "squares"; add waste factor and decking surcharge.
- Plumbing — add fixture brand/model, pipe material, shutoff windows.
- Electrical — list circuits, panel size, fixture supply, permit + inspection.
- HVAC — equipment make/model, BTU, ductwork mods, refrigerant, commissioning.
- Remodeling — demo scope, framing, finishes, customer-supplied items, dust containment.
